Bosch AHM 38 G Manual Garden Lawnmower Review
Thanks for taking the time to read our UK review of the Bosch AHM 38 G Manual Garden Lawnmower. Bosch only make one manual or cylinder style mower and this is it.
This mower has buyer ratings with an average 78% buyer satisfaction rating. That said, this mower still sells really well, and the reason for that is some UK buyers simply like and trust the Bosch brand.
They are a high quality tool brand and known for making really good tools and supporting that with a very good customer service.
They make quite a large range of garden tools, and most of these are power tools, both corded and cordless.
They are not that well known for making hand or manual gardening tools. That probably explains why they only do one manual push mower.
The Bosch AHM 38 G manual garden lawnmower is a 5 blade mower, that has a 38 cm cutting width, with a rear roller. The grass box has a 25 litre capacity, and the height of cut can be adjusted between 15-43 mm height. The rear wheels are geared and that makes it easy to push.
This mower is designed to be suitable for small gardens only. Don't buy this one to cut large gardens as that is not what it was made to do.

The 13% is a tad too high for bad reviews, and that is always a concern. We will look below as to why this is the case.
What Buyers Say About the Bosch AHM 38 G Lawnmower
The RRP for this mower is £59.99, but you can usually find this cheaper online, if you search around. We also know that around 2 out of every 3 buyers rate this mower very highly.
There are over 1,000 online buyer reviews for this AHM 38 G, so we have some very useful information available to find what buyers had to say about this Bosch branded mower.
We have summarised those below in an easy to read pros and cons section.
PROS:- Those buyers who liked this mower, really liked it a lot. They said it was well made, the blades were sharp, and it made the lawn look great. They liked the large geared wheels as it made pushing the mower very easy.
Buyers with small gardens really liked this mower as it was quiet, good for the environment and easy to use and clean.
CONS:- Buyers complained that this didn't cut the grass properly and was very patchy. The large wheels don't allow cutting up to the edges. Some buyers said the grass went everywhere except the collection box.
To help explain these different reviews we will try and explain why there may be such contradictions. This type of mower works really well on level lawns and also lawns with short dry grass.
Those buyers who have tried to use this mower on wet grass or long grass will we believe be disappointed. Likewise this type of lawnmower is truly not designed for uneven lawns.
As one buyer explained it, unless your lawn is as level as a bowling green, for get using this type of mower. That is we think a tad harsh, but it is nonetheless quite close to being the truth.
That is worth remembering if you have not used a manual push mower before. They will work on slopes as long as the ground is generally level all over.
Top 3 Features
Just below we explain what we believe to be the top 3 features about this Bosch manual mower.
Feature 1 - The All Important Blades
There are no powered blades that spin quickly on this type of mower. On most electric rotary motors a single blade spins at a very fast speed to do the cutting. With this type of mower, horizontally mounted cylinder of blades cut against a fixed bottom blade for a scissor-like cut.
That is why they have to be very sharp to prevent the grass from being ripped or torn from the ground. That is why these types of mowers work better on lawns that have short grass and are regularly mowed.
Likewise this type of blade works better on dry grass rather than wet grass.
This one has a cutting width of 38 cms which is about 15 inches so quite a wide cutting area. You can also adjust the height of the cut from between 14 -43 mm (half an inch to just over one and a half inches)
The blades are made from metal and they are coated so they will not rust. At some stage they may need sharpened, but not for many years. Sharpening these blades is not an easy thing to do, and most people will prefer to replace the blades.
Feature 2 - The Mower Itself
The mower seems to be well enough made and pretty basic to put together. It is light weighing only 7 Kg (15 lbs) and the high geared wheels make this one easy to push.
The wheels are also large and it is these wheels, along with a rear roller that creates the stripes on your lawn.
The mower has a 25 litre capacity grass collection box. We think that this mower looks very typical of this type of push mower. It has a nice colour and according to buyers is well made, and looks durable.
Feature 3 - Cutting Capability
By this stage of our review you will already know that this machine has been designed to cut small gardens. These types of push mowers are designed to do just that, so avoid these if you have a medium to large size garden to cut.
The benefits of this type or mower are that it is very quiet, easy to use, clean and maintain. It is considered to be kind to the grass, as long as you keep the grass under control in terms of height.
It does take a bit of physical effort to push this, but it is not heavy work by any means. There is a little bit of a knack to working this type of mower, but once you get used to it, that becomes quite natural to do.

Our Verdict on the Bosch AHM 38 G Manual Garden Lawnmower
Bosch are a very good brand and we believe that is why many home owners decide to buy this particular hand pushed cylinder mower.
This is a good enough mower as long as it is used on small lawns that are regularly maintained, and that the mower is used to cut the grass when it is short and dry.
This is not designed for long grass, wet grass or bigger gardens. So only consider this mower in the circumstances we have described above.
This is a light mower so easy to manoeuvre around the garden. As long as this is being used properly, it will do a good job of keeping the lawn well trimmed. It can also leave really nice stripes according to many of the online buyers.
