Terratek Hedge Trimmer Review UK

By  Enda

Thanks for taking your time to read our review on the Terratek 20V cordless hedge trimmer. This is an 20 Volt cordless hedge trimmer from the well known Terratek brand.

This trimmer is sold with a compatible 20V battery and charger so you won't have to buy them separately. With this particular model you actually get two batteries and this makes a big difference for me. You can have one on charge while you are working and there is never any time wasted, waiting for a battery to charge up.

That does make this a very attractive choice and it is a very affordable package.

Pros:

  • Buyers say this trimmer has really sharp blades that stay pretty sharp
  • The vast majority of buyers were impressed with the battery life

The reviews are quite interesting with this model. Some buyers say the unit is nice and light, then the next review complains that it's too heavy. Others loved the battery life and some thought it wasn't good enough. I found that it was about the the normal weight for an extending model and was very well balanced. Value for Money

This is sold with  2 batteries and a charger, so as we mentioned earlier, so this is excellent value for money. With a lot of the other trimmers you have to buy a battery and charger seperately, so this is quite an advantage. Having 2 batteries is a big plus for me.

This complete trimmer package is on average £125. Also, going forward, if you like to own and use good quality tools like Terratek, then a whole range of cordless tools can be used with the same battery and charger.

At this price then, you have to think this is very reasonable.

Battery Life

This model takes a 18V/20V battery and that gives it a bit of extra power. The battery supplied looks small but will give you around 45 minutes of trimming and it takes an hour to charge back up again.

On the whole this might be perfectly fine if you have a small hedge and I know this is not one of the most expensive models but I would normally like to get at least an hour from any of these trimmers. However, getting 2 batteries easily makes up for the lower run time.

Ease of Use

This model is equipped with 2 handed operation switch; the motor will only be activated when the switch and top handle are engaged. Once you have mastered this then it's just press and go, couldn't be any easier. The blade is double sided and will cut through your hedge with ease both ways.

We found that this hedge trimmer will easily cut until you get up to branches around 1.4cm in diameter. After that you will need to use a saw or lopper. The Spear and Jackson Telescopic Lopper is particularly good for that type of heavier branch work.

Important Basic Features

Most people just want a trimmer that will take care of their hedges. The beauty of a cordless hedge trimmer is that you can use it anywhere, and you never have to worry about accidentally cutting through another electric lead again. (If you have ever done that, you know what we mean!)

The Blade

The blade length on this is 45cm ( just under 18" ) so not a huge width, but big enough for most hedges. The blade is sharp and coated to stop it from sticking, and the blades are very easy to replace should you ever need to.

The Cutting Stroke Speed

At 1,350 strokes per minute, this is fast and will quickly trim hedges. This trimmer cuts on both sides which you will find extremely handy.

The Battery Life

We have already explained this above, but although the trimmer only lasts around 45 minutes, you get two batteries in the package.

What Features Make this a Better Choice?

There are lots of these cordless hedge trimmers on the UK market. So what makes this one different from the rest?

Great Build and Construction

When you think of good value tools then Terratek will definitely be one of the makers that comes to mind. This hedge trimmer is good quality in every way and all at a bargian price. The casing is strong, sturdy and built to last. The stain free shear blade is plating with a high anti-abrasion surface for long lasting coating.

Compatible with other Terratek Power Tools

If you have a range of Terratek tools then you will know all about their batteries. This battery fits 50+ other  machines , from hedge trimmers and chainsaws to combi drills and jig saws.

My Verdict on the Terratek 20V Cordless Hedge Trimmer Cutter

The main purpose of this Terratek is to allow you to clip tall, awkwardly-sited or hard-to-reach hedges and shrubs. It is also pretty effective at letting you clip lower hedges without having to bend over.

This will be able to save you time as you will not need to get out ladders, or run the risk of carrying heavy petrol clippers, or worry about trailing leads if you were using an electric hedge trimmer.

The long reach and the tilting head really are time savers in that regard.

Buyers said it is easy to put together and is lighter than other trimmers they have used before.

I am someone who enjoys a little gardening. Now I am not someone who spend hours in the garden, but I do like both my front and back gardens to look really nice. Well kept lawns, neatly trimmed hedges, and borders filled with plants, make a huge difference, to how your property looks.

  1. Only used this once and drained 1 and a half batteries. Recharged cleaned and put away. Next Time, 4 months later, Battery worked for 15 minutes then stopped. Second battery allowed Trimmer to work for about 30 seconds. Placed both batteries on charge. Red light on. Green light comes on after 2 minutes. But neither battery will start Trimmer. Any ideas?

  2. I have the Terratek electric hedge trimmer and it cuts very well. However, it is quite heavy, particularly when cutting at height. I believe that it could do with a grab handle about half way along the shaft. My model is T500LR.
Does anyone else have the same problem or can offer a solution?
