Worx WG501E Blower Mulcher UK Review

By  Enda

Thanks for taking the time to read our review on the very popular Worx WG501E 3000W 3-1 Blower, Mulcher and Vacuum. This is an electric corded blower from a well known brand.

It is worth pointing out at this early stage that the manufacturer Worx, has brought out a newer version of this model known as the Worx WG505E, and you can read about that model by clicking here.

We think it is also worth noting that the older model is getting much better buyer reviews than the newer version. The 501E gets an 82% buyer satisfaction whereas, the newer model is only getting a 64% buyer satisfaction.

In this article we are going to review the older model that has been out for a number of years, and has stood the tests of time.

The WORX Brand

WORX are a company who make a range of power tools. One of their divisions specialises in making garden tools which include power cleaners, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws and of course blowers and vacs.

The manufacturer states that they build all of their gardening tools on a platform of innovation, power and performance. They state that they are engineered with superior technology and value built into every contemporary design, so you can perform with precision.

The brand is owned by the Positec Tool Corporation and they sell a lot of tools in the USA and Canada in all the major stores like Walmart, Canadian Tire and the Home Depot. They are also popular in Great Britain.

Main Product Review

Worx WG501E 3000W 3-1 Blower UK Review

WORX currently have 12 different blower/vac products available on the UK market. Half of those are cordless options. You will find that a cordless blower will always be more expensive than a corded option.

This particular model is no longer available from the WORX website, as they have replaced it with the newer model as we mentioned above. You may still be able to find it on other online websites such as Amazon UK.

This WG501E model is a corded option. The advantage of that is that you don't have to worry about a battery running out. The disadvantage is that the blower is attached to an electric lead.

Depending on the size of your gardens and yards that lead may be long enough. In most cases though, you will probably have to use an extension lead, to reach areas that are farther away from your electrical outlet.

WORX refer to many of their blowers as "Trivac." That simply means they have three functions which are:

  1. This model can blow leaves
  2. This model can vacuum leaves
  3. This model can shred and mulch leaves

It is worth noting that cheaper models and brands may only blow, or blow and vacuum but not shred and mulch. The main advantage of shredding is that it allows you to make the garden waste much smaller.

That will leave you more room in your recycle bin, or if you prefer, make it suitable for a compost heap or a compost bin.

  • Achieved a very good 82% buyer satisfaction rating

Specification

Worx WG501E Blower Vacuum

It is always wise to have a good understanding of the specification of any power garden tool. That way you know exactly what you are getting for your hard earned cash.

We think it is also important to compare that specification against the many other options out there. In this section we show you the specification of this blower/vacuum, but more importantly we compare it to other models that are available on the market.

We do that based on price, customer ratings and features.

  • Measures 69.4 x 36.6 x 28.2 cm
  • Weighs 6.4 Kg
  • It is a corded electric product with an electrical cord that is 12 metres long
  • It has three functions blow, vacuum and shred/mulch
  • Has an angled nose design that concentrates the blow area on the ground and gives you great control
  • 3,000 watts of power and a 210 mph jet - there is an air regulator that allows you to control the speed and amount of air that gets blown
  • Has 7 speed settings
  • Has a collection bag with a 54 litre capacity
  • It has shoulder strap that helps distribute the weight of the blower
  • Noise level is 70 decibels
  • 10:1 Shredding capability

Product Comparison

Price Comparison

This one is expensive when compared to similar models. Electrical blowers and vacuums generally speaking vary in price between £35-70. As this product is no longer sold online by WORX, you will have to look elsewhere.

That makes the price point unpredictable, so our advice is to make sure that should you decide to buy this model, it sits withing the average price points shown above.

Customer Ratings

This average buyer satisfaction rating for this is 82%, and the average online buyer satisfaction for all other models just happens to be 82%. So in terms of buyer ratings this one is right up there with the best of them.

Feature Comparison

The features available on this one are available on most good 3 in 1 blowers. This model has a larger collection bag than most, and has a 3,000 watt motor compared to 2,500 watt motors on most other brands.

It doesn't however have wheels and most other brands and models to. That can make a significant difference when using this for a long period of time. The wheels help a lot in distributing the weight, and making it more comfortable to use.

Our Verdict on the WORX WG501E Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher

We would not recommend buying this model as it is no longer supplied by WORX and as such has reached what is called "end of line." That could mean getting parts might be difficult later in the life of your purchase.

It is however a very good product and the buyer ratings are as solid as they have always been.

It has excellent features and when compared like for like with similar models, this one stands up to all of those tests, except on the price point.

We believe there are better options on more up to date products such as the HANDY THEV 3000, the Q Garden QGBV2500 and the Draper 81567 models. The buyer review ratings are just as good on these, and they are better priced as well. If this is not the product for you, then check out our other blowers

Overall, this is a good product and gets solid buyer ratings. The price puts us off and we don't like the fact that it doesn't have wheels and that it is no longer available to buy at the manufacturers website.

I am someone who enjoys a little gardening. Now I am not someone who spend hours in the garden, but I do like both my front and back gardens to look really nice. Well kept lawns, neatly trimmed hedges, and borders filled with plants, make a huge difference, to how your property looks.
